Digital Policy

Digital Communication and Boundaries
The use of digital communication can sometimes blur interpersonal boundaries. I aim to be as clear as possible about how digital contact is used within my practice, and how boundaries are maintained.

As a general principle, therapeutic work takes place within scheduled sessions. Digital communication is used primarily for practical purposes.

Email
I send and receive emails via ProtonMail. ProtonMail provides end to end encryption where supported by the recipient’s email provider. Please be aware that, depending on your own email service and settings, encryption may not always be guaranteed.

For this reason, I recommend using email primarily for practical matters such as arranging or changing appointments. To help maintain confidentiality and containment, therapeutic material is best kept within sessions unless we have agreed otherwise.

All emails are stored on secure servers and may be vulnerable to risks such as unintended forwarding or replication, which are outside my control.
Messages sent via the contact form on my website are encrypted.

Telephone and Online Sessions
My practice is primarily conducted online. In some circumstances, sessions may also take place by telephone. Any arrangements for online or telephone sessions will be discussed and agreed in advance.

I make reasonable efforts to use platforms and systems that offer appropriate security and encryption.

Social Media and Professional Networks
I maintain a limited professional online presence. It is not appropriate for me to connect with current or former clients via social media or professional networking platforms, including Facebook or LinkedIn.

If contact or overlap were ever to occur through online platforms, I would aim to address this within a session.

Online Searches
You may choose to search for information about me online before or during our work together. I do not routinely search for information about clients outside of what they choose to share with me in therapy.
If anything you encounter online raises questions, you are welcome to bring these into a session if you wish.

Policy Review
This digital policy is reviewed periodically and may be updated in response to changes in technology or practice.
